Sam Altman just broke down exactly how we need to approach AI safety as models surpass human intelligence. It all comes down to three buckets: Alignment, Security, and Resilience. Altman even admitted he gave the viral autonomous agent OpenClaw root access to his personal computer just because it was too convenient not to! Because humans will inevitably trade security for convenience, we desperately need new architectures to keep these highly capable agents from leaking our private data. Most importantly, Altman pushed back against a "totalitarian" AI monopoly, arguing that the safest path forward is putting powerful AI in everyone's hands and building societal resilience to counter the inevitable bad actors.
